For sale on eBay, this Chevrolet C1 Corvette was turned into a race car in an effort to commemorate the famous EX87/5951 Corvette that set the speed record at Daytona Beach in January of 1956. The objective was to “accurately portray the paint scheme and configuration” of the history-making Corvette race car, with all the work being done by J & D Corvette in Bellflower, California.
According to the listing, this particular chassis has no racing history, but has appeared in numerous shows, such as the Monterey Historics/Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, and the Wine Country Classic/Sonoma Historic Motorsports Festival where it, in fact, won the Best Overall Performance and Presentation Of The Event prize, not to mention awards from other events.
Besides that, the Vette has been raced multiple times at Coronado and Portland, and is a consistent top 5 finisher in a race group that consists of the same period, purpose-built “specials.” Add that to its good looks and combine it with the fact that this is a C1 Corvette, and you can see why we think this will be an easy sale.
Would you shell out nearly $100K for a C1 race car if you had the means, or would you instead spend comparable amount of money on a (probably more capable) 2016 Corvette Z06? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.
