Opel took full advantage of its home-turf during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, playing host to a variety of special, and high-profile, guests. Here, General Motors CEO Mary Barra and Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, unveiled the 2016 Opel Astra to the public.
But, one of the high-profile guests was of even higher stature than others, being German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Merkel made the appearance at the Opel display to have a look at the latest 2016 Astra, but the brand had a scale-sized surprise for her.
Opel designers quickly spray painted and matched a 2016 Astra scale model to Chancellor Merkel’s cream-colored blazer, and Opel CEO Nuemann presented her with the gift on stage to her delight.
Opel pulled a similar stunt two years ago in Frankfurt, surprising her with an Opel Adam in red to match her clothing.
Neumann also delivered news to the chancellor on Opel’s future product plans that include 29 new models by 2020, including a new electric vehicle.
