Only an engineer’s brain could identify an issue such as this one, and solve it with such a simple solution. Chevrolet announced it would begin offering Active Phone Cooling on vehicle equipped with the wireless charing option, and the brand has provided an informative video on how the system actually works.
The wireless charging bin sits in the cubby of the 2016 Chevrolet Impala, Cruze, Volt and Malibu. During high temperature testing, engineers found phones would experience slower speed, and experience technical difficulties, sometimes even shutting off altogether when the cabin reach extreme temperatures. As many know, hot temps and processing speeds don’t coincide.
Therefore, a small vent was engineered to feed cool air from the car’s air conditioning straight onto the phone itself, constantly keeping the phone cool no matter the situation. Chevrolet prides itself on finding the simplest solutions to a common problem, especially for those living in year round hot climates.
This is a first of its kind technology for any automaker, and it’s coming to a 2016 Impala, Cruze, Malibu and Volt near you. Check out the video below.
