The 1990s saw the rise of the SUV, or Sport Utility Vehicle. Some SUVs leaned on the “utility” aspect more than others. If there’s any SUV to reign king of that acronym, it’s the Hummer H1. The Hummer H1 served as a military vehicle for most of its life before entering the civilian world under General Motors’ Hummer brand.
How many owners have taken their H1 to the track? Probably not a lot, but Doug DeMuro did.
You can only imagine how uncomfortable the gargantuous H1 was on the track, littered with Mazda Miatas and Subaru BRZs. But, DeMuro reports the body roll to be much better than he imagined it would be, something that shocked us as well.
The H1 was no speed demon, hitting 60 mph on the straightaways, where his copilot laughingly says he normally hits 140 mph on the same straight. That doesn’t make the sight any less entertaining, though.
After five laps, the Hummer H1 called it day. Mostly due to the likelihood of overheating, as coolant began to spew.
If you have a few minutes, the H1 on the track is a sight to see. Check it out down below.
