It doesn’t matter where you go, the automotive community is all around us. Parking lots, petrol stations, nearly anywhere can become a place of gathering for those who see the automobile as more than an appliance. This F-body meet and greet is no different, except, those in attendance were treated to a surprise.
The cameras were rolling when a yellow 2016 Chevrolet Camaro SS showed up to the party in all its LT1 glory. A prototype, no doubt, it even did without typical manufacturer plates. The F-body crew gathered round as the 2016 Camaro rolled through the parking lot, listening to the exhaust snap, crackle and pop.
There was probably no other time when a group was so excited to merely hear a car idle.
It also puts the car’s new proportions into perspective for those who haven’t seen the car in person yet. It is indeed shorter, and looks much less hefty than the zeta platform based fifth-generation Camaro.
Have a look at the car in motion in the video right down below.
Update: Brian Meissen, the organizer of the 11th annual F-body Meet and Greet in Michigan, has reached out providing added details on the 2016 Camaro surprise.
Meissen says the 2016 Camaro was truly a surprise showing. Even though GM has shown their support for this meet in the past with pre-production Camaros, including a camouflaged Camaro ZL1 in 2011, Meissen was told not to expect anything this year. The meet takes place a few miles outside of the Milford proving grounds, meaning, the meet has been graced with some worthwhile GM hardware over the years.
GM had reached out to Meissen stating they would not be able to support the gathering this year, due to prior commitments with the 2016 Camaro at Belle Isle. But, when this yellow 2016 Camaro SS rolled through, Meissen and others were ecstatic.
“We’ve really lucked out over the years, and appreciated having the 2016 Camaro drive through the show, even if it was really quick!”
