Cadillac announced today its much needed do-over in the luxury-crossover segment will be arriving next year. Early next year, that is.
Many publications speculated, and nearly confirmed, a 2015 NYIAS debut, but we quickly deduced that as out of the question, leaving the limelight all for the 2016 Cadillac CT6. Now, with this new information, it may be safe to say a 2015 Los Angels Auto Show debut is much more plausible. If not, a 2016 North American International Auto Show debut is nearly certain, depending on how “early” the phrase “early 2016” means.
The 2016 Cadillac XT5 will ditch General Motors’ Lambda platform for the all-new C1XX underpinnings, which may even support two different wheelbase options. Expect the latest LGX 3.6-liter V6 to be offered alongside front- and all-wheel drive flavors, while a plug-in hybrid variant is rumored to join the lineup after the crossover’s launch.
It remains to be seen what cues the 2015 XT5 will take in the styling department. A baby-brother Escalade route is possible, but the fresh-faced CT6 design may also play an important part.
The 2015 Cadillac XT5 will be one of many incoming Cadillac models to be launched by the year 2020.
