Last year, Mountain Dew released a series of commercials starring Dale Earnhardt Jr. based around the ‘Dale call’, a duck call-like tool used for summoning Jr. no matter where you are. Now, after a short hiatus, the Dale call is back just in time for the Geico 500 at Talladega with an all-new commercial.
In the new ‘Dale call’ ad, Earnhardt Jr. is summoned by a group of paintball players in need of a smoke screen on the battlefield. One small blow into the device and Earnhardt is in front of the players, doing drifts in his No. 88 Mountain Dew Chevrolet SS and converting his rear tires into a helpful tactical smokescreen.
Even better than the return of the Dale call ads, though, is the return of the Dale call itself. After the commercial first aired during the Super Bowl last year, a large number of fans sent messages to Mountain Dew wondering where they could get a Dale call for themselves. They eventually mass-produced the plastic call and sold them online and at Talladega, and this weekend they’ll be on sale once again at the superspeedway for $24.99.
Check out the commercial below before it airs during coverage of the Geico 500 on FOX and NBC this weekend.
