Pirelli World Challenge drivers will be going for it at the upcoming double header weekend in Detroit, with a series-high amount of prize money being offered to the race winning GT and GTA class drivers. The races are being held on Detroit’s 2.3-mile circuit at Belle Isle park on Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31 and will account for Rounds 10 and 11 of the 2015 PWC championship.
A race win in the main event on Sunday will send the winning driver home with an additional $20,000, while the second place driving will receive $15,000 and the third place driver will receive $10,000. Cadillac Racing drivers Johnny O’Connell has a strong track record at Belle Isle, with O’Connell winning the last three races there in a row, so the team could stand a good chance at going home with the record setting amount of cash.
The race will also be aired live on CBS Sports Network, rather than being aired the following Sunday as with other races in the series.
“The series is proud to be in a position to be invited to do a live race on CBS Sports Network and to have a great partner like Cadillac as our event sponsor,” Pirelli World Challenge CEO Scott said in a statement. “The live race will be the first in modern day Pirelli World Challenge and the GT/GTA record nearly $70,000 payout will certainly bring excitement to the podium finishers.”
