General Motors’ GMC brand has a strong following in the Middle East, a fact evidenced by the 700-person turnout at Mannai Auto Group’s recent GMC Off Road Festival in Qatar’s desert. The family event allowed Middle Eastern GMC customers to see how their truck or SUV performs when off-road and to test drive several brand-new GMC models, including the Yukon and Sierra.
The event started with the convoy of GMCs making their way across sand dunes towards a campsite. Along the way, professional drivers demonstrated the capabilities of GMC’s newest products, pushing both the Sierra and Yukon to their limit on the off-road course. Mannai Auto Group, a regional GMC and Cadillac dealer, said both vehicles “effortlessly” climbed the sand dunes all day.
The strong turnout at the event can be chalked up to the several GMC owner’s clubs in Qatar and the Middle East making an appearance. The clubs are sign of a strong GMC truck and SUV following in the Middle East, something Mohamed Helmy, Mannai Auto Group manager, is extremely thankful for.
“We have to thank the GMC owners’ clubs in Qatar who contributed significantly to making this event a great success, especially the Sierra Club, which came out with unbridled enthusiasm and was keen to challenge their own excellent skills alongside our specialized drivers,” he said.
GM representatives Jeroen Barwegen, regional sales and marketing director for GMC, and Ahmed Soudodi, regional brand manager GMC, also tagged along with the convoy of vehicles as the ventured away from the city and into the desert. Eventually, they arrived at a campsite with Bedouin-style tents that hosted participants between desert off-road runs, serving up refreshments and providing activities for kids such as a bouncy castle, camel rides and face painting.
