Those of you who follow General Motors in some capacity of racing know Katech as the firm responsible for Cadillac’s racing engines – and formerly, for Chevrolet, as well.
That is to say, they are not shed-based wackos pushing motors beyond the point of imminent self-destruction; they know a thing or two about durability.
So imagine our amazement when we came across this 2006 twin turbo Chevrolet Corvette Z06 by Katech for a measly $65,000 on eBay. It puts down somewhere north of 1,000 HP at the wheels, with a carbon fiber driveshaft, Quaife rear-differential and a race-ready 6-speed manual transmission.
“Unfathomable,” is an apt word for this find. Besides the above, the car also features a lot of custom, hand-stitched interior touches, Caravaggio race bucket seats with safety harnesses, and all the braking power and suspension components to handle that insane power figure.
Oh, and the build cost was around $160,000, on top of the original purchase price of the car, thanks in-part to the swap from original LS7 motor to an LSX.
This car might be forging new territory with regard to performance-per-dollar. Try to find anything else in remotely the same league for $65,000 and we can almost guarantee that you will fail.
