The Chevrolet SS is the Pontiac G8 incarnate. The Infiniti Q50S is the former G-series sedan. One has a pushrod V8, while the other has a dual-overhead cam V6. Muscle versus finesse. Sounds for a lopsided comparison? Not to the folks at The Fast Lane Car.
We’re sure you, gentle readers, aren’t interested in hearing about the Infiniti, but TFLCar says Infiniti’s V6 is as good as it gets for a six. However, that’s not good enough to keep up with the SS, which has almost a 100-horsepower advantage. They perceive the SS to have “really good balance” around the track, so despite the heft of the big V8, Chevrolet . . . er, Holden engineers have done a nice job of creating a well-rounded package with near 50/50 distribution. Both cars turned similar times around the track, but admittedly both drivers are more laymen than race-car drivers. A hunch tells us that, with practice, the SS will rule the racetrack, but the Infiniti ain’t no shrinking violet.
The overall conclusion for the SS is that it’s not sporty enough − it needs more pizzaz to match the power. But don’t take our synopsis as gospel − check out the video below.
