Last Sunday evening, one unlucky driver found himself suddenly on three wheels, as the rear passenger’s side wheel of his Corvette C6 Z06 separated from the car, causing him to lose control and overturn his car in a field.
As Corvette Blogger reports, the Corvette Z06 was heading south on Iroquois Rd. in Harborcreek Township, Pennsylvania when the mechanical failure occurred. From news footage of the wreckage, the wheel hub and brake caliper/disc remained attached to the wheel, meaning that this was not a simple case of an irresponsible owner forgetting to torque up his lug nuts; the failure occurred somewhere further inboard.
After the Corvette C6 Z06 came to a safe stop – albeit on its roof – the driver was able to free himself casually from the wreckage and presumably, get a start on filing that insurance claim. He refused medical treatment.
