Hennessey has gotten a lot of press lately for the Venom, which is officially the world’s unofficial fastest production car according to the people of the internet. This Cadillac CTS CTS-VR 1200 by Hennessey Performance Engineering is just about as impressive as the Venom and found its way to eBay for $189,988. Only 12 were made in total. That means it isn’t even considered a production car. The minimum requirement for that title is 30, but that was done on purpose in this case.
Think of how many companies make ultra fast production cars that look great and have a lot of power. Companies like Ferrari might charge obscene amounts of money, but they know exactly what they can charge while still selling a lot of cars. Even if you do have that shiny red Ferrari, you’ll probably see someone else driving something similar, especially since Ferrari sales are heavily concentrated in wealthy areas, such as Beverly Hills and South Beach, Miami. The Hennessey Cadillac CTS-VR 1200 isn’t like that at all, though, thanks to its unicorn-levels of volume.
Hennessey knows that there are car enthusiasts out there who want something really special. That’s part of the sell. When you look into the driveway and see a car that only eleven other people own, you have to feel pretty great, and you get more car for the money too. Your car might look more like Rocky than Angelina Jolie (which isn’t a bad thing in a straight line at all), but you get 1,250 bhp. Over 1,000 of that reaches the rear wheels. That kind of power gets you to 60 MPH in less than 3 seconds, and you’ll be flat out at 242 MPH. For that kind of performance, the selling price was a steal. Cheaper than the one that sold last year, too.
