Effective May 1, 2014, Julian Blissett will assume the role of Executive Vice President of Shanghai GM, who succeeds retiring Joeseph Liu. Blissett will also be a member of the Shanghai GM Executive Committee and report to Matt Tsien, GM Executive Vice President and President of GM China.
Before this promotion, Blissett has served as Vice President of New Business Development and Alliances for GM International Operations (GMIO) since December 1, 2011. The position had Blissett overseeing the growth of GM’s strategic alliances and other partnerships while exploring new business opportunities across the region. His replacement for this position is said to be announced at a later date.
GM notes that some of Blissett’s career highlights include developing confidential mergers and acquisition studies; restructuring GM’s intellectual property and royalty framework; and executing the next generation of technical license agreements.
Blissett began his career with GM in 1996 with Opel Polska, where he held positions in engineering, manufacturing and management. He later worked at the Luton Plant of IBC Vehicles and Vauxhall Motors’ Ellesmere Port Plant in the U.K. In 2006, Blissett was appointed the Deputy Executive Director of Manufacturing at Shanghai GM. Four years later, he moved to GMIO as Executive Director of Manufacturing Engineering.
