There are fast drivers, and then there are racing drivers. A racing driver doesn’t race at their limit, they race at the car’s limit. They will always be on the cusp of what the car can do, the razor-thin edge between grip and being tossed off the track into the barrier. The tires will be squealing, the brakes red hot, and the engine’s valves will be ready to shoot through the hood. The late and great Ayrton Senna has a quote describing this limit in a way no one else can:
“On a given day, a given circumstance, you think you have a limit. And you then go for this limit and you touch this limit, and you think, ‘Okay, this is the limit.’ As soon as you touch this limit, something happens and you suddenly can go a little bit further. With your mind power, your determination, your instinct, and the experience as well, you can fly very high.”
We assume that the driver of this Opel Astra GSi is just about at that limit. The Astra screams down the road, its rev needle bouncing off the redline, its rear tire lifting off the ground as the front ones hug the road. While the Astra was never a very powerful car, this guy is wringing every last bit of capability out of it. Who says front-wheel drive can’t be fun? Check out the video just below.
