Having unveiled the all-new K2XX-based 2015 Tahoe and 2015 Suburban, Chevrolet is now hard at work preparing various special-market variants of the new full-size SUVs. One of these is the police version of the new Tahoe, which The Bow Tie brand is previewing with this new Tahoe Police Concept at SEMA 2013.
According to Chevy, the vehicle we see here is “a look at how law enforcement will be hitting” the streets and highways in the near future. The modified Tahoe contains the full array of emergency lighting and police equipment an officer of the law would expect, as well as GM’s new 5.3 liter EcoTec3 L83 V8 engine as part of the standard equipment found in the Tahoe 9C1 police package. The new eight-banger is rated at 355 horsepower and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The 9C1 rolls on 17-inch steel wheels, and features police-specific suspension and auxiliary battery for emergency equipment.
Look for the official police-bound Tahoe to show up in the next few months.
The GM Authority Take
Looks sinister and authoritative — which never hurts.
On a competitive note, it will be interesting to see how this new Tahoe PPV and its new 5.3 liter V8 competes with its chief rival — the unibody Ford
Explorer Interceptor Utility and its boosted six-cylinder EcoBoost, which came away as the class leader in acceleration in the latest Michigan Police tests.
