Well, someone over on Reddit posted a picture of Chevrolet’s plan for Game 5 of the World Series. The idea was to get fans attending the game to hold up signs which were going to spell out “Silverado Strong”. According to Boston Magazine, the Chevrolet marketing department caught wind that
some a lot of people on the internet were upset over the promotion, and cancelled it before the game.
The phrase “Boston Strong” was popularized after the bombings at the Boston Marathon in April, when two college students raised money for the victims of the bombings by selling t-shirts with the phrase printed on the front. The term “B Strong” has been adopted by the Boston Red Sox, with the logo appearing on the field at Fenway Park.
Even though it wasn’t Chevy’s intention to play off the popularized phrase, they probably pulled the ad to avoid further speculation.
