The available Chevrolet Mylink infotainment system for the 2014 Malibu will allow smartphone and iPhone users to send and receive texts through voice commands, a first for the midsize sedan segment.
Mylink’s Text-to-Voice feature converts received texts to speech, playing them through the audio system and allowing users to reply with a preset group of messages. For example “I’m driving right now, Ill get back to you later.” Users can create and save their own messages when the vehicle is in park.
Not all phones are compatible, and depending on whether or not you have and Android or an Apple product will determine how the system works. For instance, Apple iPhone 4S users have to integrate Siri into the system, and use voice commands through Siri to send text messages, though Siri can also check on things like box scores, and stock prices on the fly.
