Since its introduction, the Chevrolet Sonic has pushed the content envelope in the subcompact segment, and it continues to do so for the 2014 model year. On top of the additions of active safety, the Sonic remains the only vehicle in its class with a five-star crash safety rating in the New Car Assessment Program administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The 2013 model was named a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The Sonic was also the first subcompact to have 10 standard airbags, and remains the only subcompact built in America. The Sonic also offers Siri Eyes Free mode with MyLink-equipped models, utilizing the system without the driver picking up the phone.
