Despite only offering one model, Tesla Motors is managing to outsell both the Buick brand in its home state of California this year, according to California Dealer Network Association data, via Slate.
The scores? As of the end of Q2, 2013 Buick tallied 4,675 sales in The Golden State, and Tesla pulled in 4,714 vehicles, edging the TriShield brand. Meanwhile, Cadillac sold 6,805 vehicles in the same time frame, but Tesla outsold the luxury brand in the month of June 2013. Will the ELR help keep Cadillac ahead of the surging electric vehicle company? Only time will tell.
This isn’t all to say that Buick and Cadillac are slumping in the California market — where vehicle tastes are so… um, unique, that the best-selling vehicle so far this year is the Toyota Prius. Truth be told, Buick has grown 24.5 percent in the region year-over-year, and Cadillac is growing at a more impressionable 33.1 percent.
