When it comes to sales dominance in the global market as a whole, General Motors, Toyota and Volkswagen are the current titans of industry. Lately, it’s been a very narrow battle for who can claim the global sales crown, but right now, we have General Motors winning in the United States, while Toyota edges GM on the global front. Meanwhile, VWAG follows closely in third place globally. GM with its joint-venture partners are also the undisputed sales leader in China.
With the official scores in, Toyota’s global sales for the first six months stands at 4.91 million units, despite a 1.2 percent drop. Then comes GM, which sold 4.85 million vehicles, followed by Volkswagen with 4.7 million. In The United States, GM just edges Toyota with 2.49 million sales to the Japanese automakers 2.48 million.
And with that, the referee signals the start of the second half.
