Despite plans to move Chevrolet Cruze production out of South Korea beginning with the next-generation model, General Motors is denying reports of the vehicle’s assembly moving to Gliwice, Poland, where the Opel Astra is currently assembled.
“There has been no decision made about where the next generation Cruze will be built,” a spokesman for Chevrolet Europe said yesterday, according to Reuters. Whatever happens, it’s not expected to affect U.S. Cruze production in Lordstown, Ohio.
That Cruze Wagon looks great! I drove a 2013 Cruze and it is an excellent car. I wish GM does sell this Cruze Wagon in the U.S., since many drivers need a small wagon to carry more cargo, yet only the imports offer such a model.
The Cruze for the European market should be assembled in Poland, along with the Astra. It would help GM maximize capacity and then sell to the local markets.
Koreans don’t want to work at night. Europeans like Americans are willing to work at night.
No, also Europeans and Americans (from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego) don’t like to work in the night either.
The thirst for night shift from the bosses comes from the low importance of labor costs in comparison to the fixed capital invested in the machinery, all those automatons which still need human supervision.
Who cares what the Koreans want
If GM wants to sell more Chevrolets in Europe then they are forced to built them locally to reduce costs and they can expand the powertrain range by using Opels diesel engines and technologies, which are produced primarily for the european market! Or do they want to ship everything from Korea to Europe or the other way around? Niche models such as the Malibu can still built in Korea. KIA and Hyundai are doing this for years by producing their cars locally and they are very successful with this strategy.
I see many new Jetta wagons (many of them TDI) on Long Island.
GM is stupid if they don’t offer the Cruze wagon here in the US.
