Chevy Camaro To Receive Supercharged “LT4″ V8 Engine By 2015, Will Be More Powerful Than ZL1

Corvette C7 CAD Engine LT4

Within the same Corvette Forum thread that posted leaked CAD engine bay renderings of the Corvette C7 and other images, there was a blurb from the same user that uploaded the renderings regarding the Chevrolet Camaro. If it is to be believed, the Camaro will be receiving a supercharged version of the fifth-generation small-block V8 engine — rumored to be called “LT4″. As a bonus, the engine will also be shared with a high(er) performance version of the upcoming C7 Corvette.

According the the user, who is highly reputable within the forum’s community, the engine will be an “upgrade of Camaro ZL1 with more hp.” Sounds pretty mighty, considering the  ZL1 currently punches out 580 horsepower via a 6.2L supercharged LSA engine. But will the ZL1 name stick? Or is this paving the way for the likes of a Z28? As we like to say here on GMA, only time will tell.

So if this has more power, 600+ probably, I wonder what is in store of the ZR1.. 700hp??

So lets see, both the Mustang and Camaro are expected to get 4-bangers for the next gen, and the Camaro is suppose to get a 3.6TT.

    2.0T @270hp
    3.6 N/A @320hp
    3.6TT @430hp
    LT1 V8 @490hp
    LT4 V8 @550hp
    LT4 S/C @600+hp

i think you nailed it spot on. The Jay Leno Camaro is a twin-turbo version of the 3.6-liter, 420-hp V6. with the same gas mileage as the normal V6 but so your numbers are what we (should) expect. I hope the base Camaro keeps the 3.6 with some more tweaks for mileage. other wise guess we have to wait and hope they make a Camaro worth trading up for…

Is there any chance that GM might replace the Camaro SS trim with a Camaro Z28 trim? I ask because with the upcoming Chevrolet SS, there might be some confusion between the SS trim and the SS model. It would seem to me that Z28 could become the new Camaro SS with the ZL1 still being the “super” Camaro.

That is logical. Make it so.

I would think that the Chevrolet SS won’t get in production with that name…

Well, GM did file a trademark application to use the Z28 nameplate again: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/09/general-motors-trademarks-z28-name-chevrolet-camaro/

thats if there is going to be a 4 banger in there!

    4 banger 5 eco

    n/a 3.6 4 rs

    s/c 3.6 3 ss

    lt1 2 Z28

    s/c lt1 1 Zl1
