This 1992 Buick Roadmaster Has Less Than 88,000 Miles: Future Classics

1992 Buick Roadmaster 2

We recently came upon this ’92 Buick Roadmaster sedan… in person. Built in Arlington, Texas, this ‘Master shares its B-Body platform with its wagon variant as well as the Cehvy Caprice and Olds Custom Cruiser. Under the hood of this 215 inch-long sofa-on-wheels is a 5.7 liter V8 riding on some Dynaride suspension.

It’s not every day that we get to see one of these future classics, and it’s always interesting to see where the modern Buick brand came from. But the question is, does this qualify as a Mint Car?

I was watching reruns of Top Gear last night. The episode where Rutledge buys the variant of this in the wagon. I love that show and the 90′s growing up.

I cannot stand the us version of top gear, original version is the best, the hosts make it big time.

This is a pretty nice Roadmaster, but definately not mint. Mine has 239,940 and is in better condition than this one is.

Mint means something that this car isn’t. It is exceptionally nice, but there can’t be the little trim nicks and slightly out of place chrome bits that this one has. Mint means as it rolled off the showroom floor period.

I consider ‘Mint’ to have a mileage anywhere between 0 and 1000 kms (621mi), sometimes less depending on the car.

This old boat, nameplate notwithstanding, is valueless. I’d even say it’s vulgar to look at.

I don’t know Graw this thing is pretty low mileage. But yes, it does have quite a few blemishes inside and out. But the original instruction manual is intact!

My Dad has a cream puff Chevy Caprice WAGON with 88K! Everything still works and rides like a dream. Gets noticed where ever it goes. Somebody always has a positive comment. The American car companies say people don’t want wagons. Wrong.

This car is like a rolling museum. I once read a review of the Chevy Volt. The reviewer wanted to hate it but he couldn’t. He was old enough to remember when the Big 3′s response to foreign competition was more Landau roofs (and, I might add, more fake wood dashboard trim). This Buick is reminiscent of that era. I have a 97 Lesabre with “Dynaride” and fake wood. Still runs really well, though. However, I’m glad that era is over. GM cars, like the Volt, are ahead of the competition in many respects. That was the conclusion the reviewer drew from his time with the Volt.
I’d like to give this Buick a thumbs up just because it’s in such good condition. But I may have to go with Grawdaddy’s assesment that this car is vulgar today. With that monster under the hood, it’s like something grotesque, out of a Gothic novel (e.g. – Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein”).

I’d like to tack a bit more onto my previous statement.

It’s not the case that the car’s segment is vulgar, it’s just that side-skirts, landu roofs, wire-hubcaps simply don’t belong in this world anymore.

The closest car to this made today by the D3 would be the 300, and even that thing with Pentstar shows how far the segmetn has evolved is just 20 years. That, and the 300 didn’t make it to where it is by offering landu roofs either.

Yes I would love to have this car the Roadmaster,Caprice,or Custom Cruiser, even better if it happen to a wagon. Good reliable transportation, still looks stylish, doesn’t have a damn console. Impala SS is also great even though it did have a console which seem like a after thought. I think the powers that be could have updated the full size line, believe car lost sales because everything else offered gave more whiz bang gadgets.

Mint ? No, but this would qualify as a good parts car to be able to save a later Roadmaster with the LT1 motor like the Impala SS of the same generation…. I do agree that the wagons of the day would make a nice resto-mod, especially since the LS based motors put out more horsepower and are all but plug and play bolt ins…. If you want mint drive out to Sun City Arizona these cars are everywhere parked next to the LeSabre in the driveway and at the golf courses….

I think you’re the only one Dan. After selling cars for over 15 years at various highline dealerships I can count on one hand how many people actually preferred fabric to a leather or leather like material. On a related note, glad I’m out of the sales game.

Silent…yes, most people liike that leather….I’ve had it and it was fine…I guess I’d like to see a very nice fabric and a leather boslster trim; just my opnion….I like the Verano fabric and leatherette combo…I will get that for sure if I decide against ATS…ATS comes in leathertte and that will have to do :)
