Could Cadillac Flagship Be Called ZTS?

Cadillac Ciel Concept - Chicago 2012 3

A Cadillac spokesman recently whispered into the ears of Automotive News that the first letter in each Cadillac vehicle is in ascending alphabetic order based on size. So by that logic, a vehicle placed above the XTS has only two letter options: Y and Z.

That is, if Cadillac continues its alphabet soup pattern its been carrying out since the introduction of the first generation CTS earlier last decade. The Wreath and Crest could, however, go with a more illustrative name for its flagship, like Ciel.

Or, it could be the recently trademarked “LTS“. Just some food for thought.

As long as it isn’t called ‘Fleetwood’, the flagship can be called whatever works for the nomenculture.

Oh, they can call it the Fleetwood if they like…they just had better live up to that name. And I think they probably will use the Fleetwood as a designation, perhaps for a long-wheelbase, top-of-the-line flagship trim…

I don’t see that working out well. The size of cars won’t get any bigger in the future, and the ATS would be their smallest model. They don’t even have a 1 series competitor yet. Also, I don’t see anything being slotted between the ATS and CTS, and I certainly don’t see 20 models being slotted between the CTS and XTS. I just feel that the nomenclature corners the brand.

I see what people Re saying about the naming, but they don’t have to name every car “ts” the roadster they were playing to slot between the ats and cts was going to be called CLR, and the cross over have the “RX” ending to it…..and if a sub compact were to emerge to compete with 1series…it will have a different 2 letter names….like ALC…..it works I like the new naming, I hate those old caddy names….

I think the XTS should have been XLS. It was always intended to be a livery sedan, not a touring sedan. The CTS Coupe should be the CTC, but that would cause too much confusion.
