Bob Lutz at this point has to be the most recognizable automotive executive in the world. Besides perhaps Daimler’s Dieter Zetsche and his mustache. Lutz’s outspoken, charismatic personality has earned him the spotlight, and he’s been able to keep it by advocating the need for the balance of passion and innovation with analysis and the bottom line. That’s essentially what his book, Car Guys vs Bean Coutners, is all about. And Stephen Colbert had Lutz on last night’s show to talk a bit about it. And then Lutz subsequently beat Colbert, who is 30 years younger than Lutz, in a pushup competition.
We imagine Bob Lutz then left the set, hopped into the cockpit of his fighter jet, and flew back to his mountain palace in Valhalla.
