While General Motors isn’t exactly NASA, the company has done a fairly impressive job with its patents, ranking number one for the fourth-straight quarter among 183 other automotive and transportation companies, according to The Patent Board.
Recently, GM applied for three significant patents mentioned in the press release below. They are “Quiet Brakes” — a friction-damped disc brake system expected to debut in two to three years. There’s also another OnStar Voice Recognition patent, and another for an “eAssist Thermal Management” system, which helps maintain interior climate control in extremely hot or cold conditions during engine shutoff. We’re still waiting for the patent where the car makes a sandwich for its occupants.
