Looking back at 2011, there were some things that obviously didn’t stick in the market. Yahoo! Finance pointed out a few of these busts, with some of them being obvious as to why they never managed to catch on. Things like a “push up bikini top” for young girls, the PlayBook tablet and even the Chevy Volt. Yet things like Pajama Jeans and Bud Light continue to exist. What a world we live in. And if you’re reading this in your Pajama Jeans and drinking Bud Light, send us a picture. We’ll make you famous.
Anyways, while Yahoo! is quick to point out the Volt’s low sales numbers through the summer of 2011, it failed to mention that the vehicle was only available in select markets nationwide, and Volt’s assembly plant had to be temporarily shutdown for retooling. Additionally, supply of the vehicle was said to be as low as 5 days during certain points, and sales began escalating at the end of the year, when the Volt finally launched across the country.
So did Yahoo! mislabel the Volt as a flop? You make the call. And considering how Yahoo! is doing compared to Google, maybe the internet conglomerate should take a look in the mirror.
