Motorsports Tycoon Rick Hendrick
Few people in the motorsports owners arena reach legendary status. Rick Hendrick is one of those people. And when the NASCAR mogul isn’t busy running Hendrick Motorsports or his dealership chain, Hendrick Automotive, he seems to be investing his earnings in very exclusive and collectible vehicles at major auctions such as Barrett-Jackson, placing bids on one-of-a-kind machines. That said, it comes as no surprise that Mr. Hendrick was the one who came on top with the winning $225,000 bid for the Chevrolet Volt that recently finished its charity auction. For some reason, the modern-day Chevrolet El Camino in the U.S. market seems to be a very popular topic. Unfortunately, the closest thing U.S. drivers got to a Chevrolet El Camino was the stillborn Pontiac G8 ST, a vehicle that was to be based on the Australian-born Holden Commodore Ute. Thankfully, new evidence is pointing towards an eventual comeback of the El Camino.

Effective immediately, GM’s Vice President of marketing will have a whole lot more responsibility on his hands. Joel Ewanick will see an expansion of his duties on a global scale, becoming The General’s global Chief Marketing Officer while still retaining the responsibilities of his previous position as Vice President of marketing at GM North America. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall on all of The General’s Theta platform-based crossovers on the fairly concerning issue involving cracks in the seat belt buckle anchors of certain recently-produced vehicles. What does a painter, a hockey player, and a certain robot have in common? Each one happens to have talented hands and fingers. Now, you might be thinking: “big deal, lots of robots have hands and fingers, what’s so special?” Well,what if we told you this robot was developed by GM and NASA and its hands and range of motion are nearly identical to a human’s? Sci-Fantastic!

Despite the demise of Hummer, the passion for off-road performance seems to be well and alive inside the walls of General Motors. To show that the fire is not out, The General unveiled the GMC Sierra All Terrain HD Concept ahead of the Detroit Auto Show, where the Duramax Diesel-powered, half-ton super truck will be on display in sheetmetal form next month. General Motors has confirmed the completion of a $2.1 billion repurchase of its 9 percent Series A Preferred Stock held by the U.S. Department of The Treasury. In total, GM bought 84 million shares from the Treasury at $25.50 per share – a 2 percent premium over the liquidation value.
The transaction, which was announced in October, brings GM’s total repayment to the Treasury to $23.1 billion – a sum that includes $13.5 billion generated by GM’s IPO last month, $6.7 billion in GM debt repayments, and $800 million from interest and dividends. Continue reading.
