Holden is putting out a recall this week on 1500 Series II Commodore Sportwagons. The recall was issued due to a locking mechanism in back seat not locking properly which could cause the seat to collapse onto passengers in an accident or panic stop. The problem was found during internal testing and no incidents have been reported. Continue recalling.

The latest recall from General Motors involves 2011 model-year GMC Sierra 1500, Chevy Silverado 1500, Chevy Avalanche, and Cadillac Escalade EXT trucks. The culprit is the rear axle cross pin that was not manufactured to proper spec that can possibly lead to the locking of the entire rear axle and the subsequent loss of directional control by the driver. GM claims there are no known injuries or fatalities resulting from the issue.
There will be no charge to the customer to fix the issue by replacing the rear axle cross pin. The recall is expected to begin January 2011 and owners can contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339, Chevrolet at 1-800-630-2438, GMC at 1-866-996-9463, and the GM Owner Center at www.GMOwnerCenter.com. Unlike the Toyota Prius — which has its batteries assembled in Europe that are then shipped to Japan for final assembly, where the final product takes the form of an egg-shaped sedan hatch — the Chevrolet Volt has both — its batteries manufactured and final assembly taking place — right here in the United States; more specifically, in Michigan. Secondly, we all are aware that the Volt and its technology are stepping stones to a giant leap forward of automotive transportation. As such, Progress Michigan, a political grassroots movement that pushes for (you guessed it) progress in the state of Michigan, believes that the Volt and future products like it should continue to be built in the Mitten. The Chevrolet Cruze has passed the rigerous New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) put on by the NHTSA with top honors. The Cruze was put through a set of revised tests which included revised frontal and side crash tests in addition to rollover testing with the results of the three tests going into a mathematical formula to deliver the “Overall Vehicle Score.” And what a score, as the Cruze was the first vehicle to get five stars in all of the tests, thus giving it an overall score of five out of five stars. Continue crashing.

The latest recall news from General Motors involves the first generation Cadillac CTS from the 2005-2007 model years. The recall is due to a kink in the presence system that could lead to the failure of proper passenger airbag deployment. GM claims there are no known injuries or fatalities due to the issue. As per usual, there will be no charge to the customer to fix the recall. Continue reading for the presser.

The Chevrolet Volt, one of most important vehicles in GM’s lineup is now arriving onto dealer lots. But the Volt wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for lessons learned from The General’s first take on producing an electric vehicle, such as the EV-1 back in the 1990′s or even the implementation of two-mode hybrid systems in vehicles as big as the Cadillac Escalade. It’s pretty much a fact of life that the fifth-generation Chevy Camaro is nothing short of awesome. Unfortunately, the folks at Chevrolet haven’t gotten around to making the coveted T-Tops variant of the reborn bow tie pony car. The closest to a T-Tops Chevy Camaro today is the unique conversion by Drop Top Customs — and contrary to popular assumptions — the conversion does not nullify the Camaro’s factory warranty. Oh snap! The latest vehicle to have the privilege to rest within the confines of Jay Leno’s Big Dog Garage — next to millions of dollars worth of collectibles — is none other than the 2011 Chevrolet Volt, which could one day be worth millions as well. Continue for the video.

We’re not sure whether GM engineers thought that driving a white 2012 Chevrolet Malibu in a snowy white backdrop wouldn’t attract much attention — but as seen from the latest spy photos, that clearly wasn’t the case. Which is a good thing.

The Opel Flextreme GT E Concept, a mid-sized sedan featuring the Volt's powertrain
General Motors CEO Dan Akerson is looking for ways to implement plug-in electric vehicle technology beyond the Chevrolet Volt. And with concepts seen in the past such as the Opel Flextreme GT E Concept, Chevrolet Volt MPV5 Concept, Cadillac Converj and the Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept (which was also a plug-in hybrid), The General’s design studios have been busy flirting with different ways to present the technology. Couple that with recent reports of the Cadillac SRX getting a plug-in powertrain as well and we may be beginning to see the makings of a full line of electric vehicles. Or maybe it’s complete bullsquash. Indeed. Continue reading.
