You know Chevrolet is out to kick some proverbial backside when one of the launch ads for the Cruze compact sedan in North America starts with, “Dear Corolla”.
We highly recommend you click past the break to watch the 30-second commercial (narrated by none other than Tim Allen) that points out such Cruze attributes as Bluetooth, remote keyless entry, turn-by-turn navigation, and – of course – the vehicle’s awesome interior. Clicky click.
Opel is expanding the engine lineup of its Meriva MPV with the addition of three new diesel offerings, bringing the total count of available diesel engines in the Delta II-based vehicle to five. Diesel-powered Merivas make up as much as 37 percent of the MPV’s sales – so it’s more or less common sense for Opel/Vauxhall to improve the vehicle’s diesel lineup. Continue reading for more about the three new diesel engines.
Let’s face it, driving while talking on the cell-phone has become a bit taboo. This being the case, many automotive companies have taken the steps to provide alternatives to drivers holding cumbersome cell phones to their ears while driving. In the case of General Motors, our favorite automaker has made Bluetooth an option in almost every model, allowing a driver to use both hands to drive while being able to communicate with your spouse about what to buy at the grocery store on the way from work.
However, not enough folks seem to be catching on to the functionality that Bluetooth provides. According to the latest analysis by OnStar, only 45 percent of GM vehicle owners with Bluetooth installed in their vehicles actually use the technology. Due to this fairly low percentage, OnStar president Chriss Preuss believes consumers just don’t know how to use Bluetooth. Therefore, OnStar is launching a campaign to promote hands-free calling to boost Bluetooth usage. Continue reading.
It’s no secret that the GM Authority crew has been hard at work trying to figure out the most direct competitors for the all-new Buick Regal. If this is your first time hearing about this insurmountable feat, just have a listen to any of our Weekly or Debate podcasts.
At the end of the day, we still can’t figure out whether the Epsilon II-based Regal is aimed at the mainstream buyer, the luxury customer, or somewhere in between. And it appears that consumers can’t seem to answer that question either, since the first Regal ever sold in the US of A back in July went to a 44-year-old male manufacturing executive from suburban Chicago. Continue reading to find out what the first Regal buyer cross shopped before settling on the Tri-Shield.
To put it honestly, hatchbacks are in Europe are to what full-sized pickups are in the United States: they’re everywhere. The market is extremely competitive and are more or less a cultural phenomenon. This being the case, it comes as no surprise that General Motors is showing off yet another hatchback at the upcoming Paris Motor Show. This time, it’s the Vauxhall GTC Concept. Continue reading.
Did you know that it was Cadillac that first introduced night vision in production cars back in 2001? Introduced in the Cadillac DeVille, this high-tech safety feature was made to help drivers detect the things headlamps could not catch in the dark. Today, however, the option is no longer available. But there are still other important active safety features obtainable in the vehicles of GM’s premier marque. Now, the Wreath and Crest is beginning to experiment with what has been come to be known as “active safety”. Continue reading.
General Motors is vehemently gearing up for the late September launch of the Chevrolet Cruze and, in preparing for the uber-important event, is encouraging its 3,000 Chevrolet dealers to purchase competitive vehicles for head-to-head comparisons. Continue reading.
If you’re fixing to buy a Ford Fiesta, hold off for just a little bit. By next year, you could be driving the all-new Chevrolet Aveo instead. The all-new hatch, which will be The General’s second truly global vehicle following the Cruze, will be on display at the Paris Motor Show, joining the Chevy Orlando MPV and Cruze hatch. The trifecta of hatchbacks (along with a possible wildcard entry from the Chevy Spark) will surely help to quench Europe’s thirst for wagon/hatchback vehicles. Today, General Motors released the first official photos of the tiny hatch – here’s what we’ve gleamed so far. Continue Reading.
Volt fans: mark your calendar for November 11, 2010. That is the date when Job 1 of the Chevrolet Volt will begin rolling off the line at its newly-retooled assembly plant in Hamtramck, MI and (finally) make its way into dealerships.
GM had originally set November 2010 as the timeframe for dealership-bound Volts to begin rolling off the line, but could not absolutely set a firm date until certain achievements in its development were met.
Until November 11th, the Hamtramck plant will still continue building pre-production Volts for GM’s Captured Test Fleet – vehicles used by employees for evaluation. However, dealers will have to wait until early December – four weeks after Job 1 – to take delivery to their lots. And despite seeming incredibly on the late end, the Volt will still make its release just in time for a potential Super Bowl commercial.
