Volt fans: mark your calendar for November 11, 2010. That is the date when Job 1 of the Chevrolet Volt will begin rolling off the line at its newly-retooled assembly plant in Hamtramck, MI and (finally) make its way into dealerships.
GM had originally set November 2010 as the timeframe for dealership-bound Volts to begin rolling off the line, but could not absolutely set a firm date until certain achievements in its development were met.
Until November 11th, the Hamtramck plant will still continue building pre-production Volts for GM’s Captured Test Fleet – vehicles used by employees for evaluation. However, dealers will have to wait until early December – four weeks after Job 1 – to take delivery to their lots. And despite seeming incredibly on the late end, the Volt will still make its release just in time for a potential Super Bowl commercial.[Source: Translogic]
