Production of the Acadia Denali began last week and the first production models should be arriving at dealers as you read this. The first Chevrolet Volts destined for daily use by the general population will hit the road within the next month. Beginning in late October, a select group of 15 individuals, the names of which can be found in the press release below, will each receive a pre-prodution Volt to form the Volt Consumer Advisory Board. The board is an extension of the employee test fleet program and is one of the final steps in preparation for public launch, which is still scheduled for November 2010. Continue reading.

Last week at the IAA Commercial Vehicles Fair in Hannover, Germany, Opel introduced an extended-range (EREV) concept version of its Vivaro van. The research vehicle, as it’s being called internally, uses a 111 kW electric motor that delivers 370Nm (about 273 ft.-lbs.) of torque coupled with lithium-ion batteries mounted underneath the van’s floor, providing an electric range of 100 miles or 400 miles with the range extender engaged. As autumn approaches, General Motors fans are anxiously awaiting the thing that’s been promised since The General’s bankruptcy proceedings. And that, of course, is the initial public offering (IPO). Instead of anticipating Halloween or Thanksgiving, political and automotive enthusiasts look forward to the government lessening its hold on GM, including the Treasury’s 61 percent/$50 billion ownership.
As such, it goes without saying that The Treasury wants to limit foreign investment in the IPO, but whispers are abound that SAIC – GM’s Chinese partner – wants a stake of its own in our favorite automaker. In fact, SAIC is in preliminary talks about acquiring a single digit share in General Motors once it goes public. Continue reading.
If you happen to be the proud owner of a 2007-2009 Saturn Aura Hybrid, Vue Hybrid, or a 2007-2010 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid, you may want to read this one carefully. Back in July, GM told the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that the nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) battery packs in the aforementioned vehicles could crack, resulting in the leakage of battery electrolytes and the eventual cutting of power. As such, The General has to replace all battery packs in those mild hybrids. The problem, however, is that The General can’t get enough replacement batteries for the 25,813 vehicles involved.
