Well look at what we have here: a somewhat-undisguised mule of the next-gen Chevy Malibu has been spotted! Continue reading.
Witness the latest episode of Department: 180. Titled CZ10A Solid, the episode shows the department’s men in white coats inside a soundproof anechoic chamber making some pretty cool music with the can’t-come-soon-enough Chevrolet Cruze. The resulting beat is very cool, making us aspire to do something similar with the vehicles in the GM Authority Garage. Click past the break to watch the video.
Come September 1, General Motors will have itself a new chief executive officer in Dan Akerson, who will succeed current CEO Ed Whitacre. But unlike Whitacre, Akerson plans to shop for houses in metro Detroit, which means that he’s planning on staying a while as The General’s chief, bringing long-term stability to GM management.
Akerson, who will be GM’s fourth CEO in less than two years, will move from his McLean, VA home to make the metro Detroit area his primary residence. This is in grave contrast to Whitacre, who stayed in an apartment at the Westin Book Cadillac hotel and commuted from his home in San Antonio, TX. Continue reading.

On this episode, Manoli and Alex discuss the Buick Excelle GT – the same vehicle that will make its way over to America wearing the Verano nameplate. Among other things, we try to figure out what vehicles the Excelle will compete with when it makes its way over to the United States later next year. As we’ve come to realize, the Excelle GT seems to not belong in the U.S. marketplace one single bit! Yeap, you read that right!

When General Motors announced the completion of the dealer arbitration process last week, it most likely hoped that the rather unpleasant trimming operation was a thing of the past. Alas, that’s not the case, since Rally Auto Group of Palmdale, California is not giving up without a fight.
Before GM’s decision to decrease its dealer count by nearly 2,000 stores, Rally carried The General’s Chevrolet, Cadillac, Buick, Pontiac, and GMC brands. However, the arbiter in Rally’s case decided to give its Chevy franchise to a nearby Saturn store, allowing Rally to continue selling the Cadillac, Buick, and GMC brands.
Even though air conditioning doesn’t stroke our inner gear head as much as new GM engines, platforms, or vehicle unveilings, AC may be very much apropos in light of the summer heat that’s recently descended upon the Northern hemisphere. Coincidentally, General Motors will begin using a new green technology in the AC systems of its cars by 2013. Continue reading.
For those not attending today’s Woodward Dream Cruise (or for those reading GM Authority from Woodward), here’s a commercial for the new Buick LaCrosse.
The ad highlights the high-tech nature of the vehicle, including the hard-disk-based navigation system and 40-gigabyte hard drive for music storage. However, this particular writer believes that hard drive storage systems in today’s cars are completely unnecessary, since drivers and/or passengers already have their music ripped to their personal music players and/or smartphones; re-ripping CDs all over again to the car’s memory seems rather pointless.
Nevertheless, this ad is one more step in the right direction in transforming Buick into a true Lexus competitor. It, after all, is the new class of world class. Click past the break to watch the clip.
Well here’s something rather peculiar. Inbound General Motors CEO Dan Akerson is not what you’d exactly call a devout Democrat.
Political contribution disclosures filed by the Carlyle Group – Akerson’s present employer – reveal details about the incoming CEO’s political affiliations. Here’s a list of Akerson’s recent contributions: Continue reading.
