Here’s an interesting development for those looking to get their hands on a Volt (aka Vauxhall/Opel Ampera) in the Old World: the biggest concern regarding the Volt’s Voltec powerplant has been its inability to produce enough torque and overtaking power at speeds greater than 50 mph (80 km/h). As such, the practicality of the hotly-anticipated EREV on such roads as the all-mighty Autobahn has been brought into question. Continue reading…
Help for Heroes, a British charity started in 2007, helps raise money for rehabilitation centers and services to help the Armed Forces of the United Kingdom. General Motors’ Vauxhall arm is a sponsor of the charity and has been hosting events to help raise money. Now, Vauxhall has donated two Insignia Sports Tourers (wagons) and a Movano van to the charity. Continue reading…
As we get closer to the December launch date of the hotly-anticipated Chevrolet Volt, we’re seeing a steady stream of Volt-related information flowing into our tips inbox. Here are two tips we’ve received over the last few days outlining previously-unknown Volt features. Continue reading…
In May, GM was considering reentering the automotive lending business in an effort to lend to subprime buyers – those with credit scores below 620 points. Today, these customers represent approximately seven percent of the U.S. automotive market. At that time, GM was faced with three options:
It looks like General Motors has come to a decision regarding the matter and is now in talks with banks about lending possibilities. Continue reading…
Let’s face it – the Chevy Volt is an important product for General Motors. Not only will it sell all over the world (under different nameplates), but it’s the first car that truly has a chance to transform GM’s public image from a gas-guzzlin’ earth-killin’ machine to the something along the lines of all that’s good and green. But while some of us have only talked about the Volt, the fine folks at Consumer Reports (CR) have actually driven it! Continue reading…
During a media briefing at GM’s Brownstown Township, MI battery plant, General Motors Vice Chairman Tom Stephens announced that the lithium ion battery pack for the 2011 Chevrolet Volt would carry a warranty of 8 years or 100,000 miles. Continue reading…
When we first laid eyes on the all-new 2012 Chevrolet Aveo at the 2010 North American International Auto Show, we only saw the new subcompact in hatchback form. Given America’s insatiable thirst for sedans, however, it would only make sense for the Gamma II-based Aveo to be available in traditional sedan form as well. Lucky for us, the good folks at Autoblog have uncovered patent drawings that give us a sneak-peak at the three-box Aveo. Continue reading…
$20,168 US Dollars (RMB 137,700) – that’s the base price of the Buick Excelle GT, the newest addition to the Tri-Shield brand’s lineup in China. Click past the jump for a full gallery of the Excelle GT…

Terry Woychowski
Terry Woychowski, GM Vice President of Global Vehicle Program Management, asked a group of young engineers “How do we help?”
He asked the question while showing pictures of Solomoni Mafuta, a ten year-old boy from the village of Senzani in Malawi, Africa that he sponsored. The group found out that Solomoni failed the second grade because he had to walk several days to a mill to get his family’s corn grinded for nshima, a type of cornmeal that’s a staple of African diets. Solomoni’s family is one of many that cannot afford a mill and have to either walk or grind it themselves.
Focusing on the issue of grinding the corn, Woychowski – one of GM’s top GM engineers – turned to his family, volunteers at GM, and students at Michigan Technological University to help out. Continue reading…
