Cadillac will be offering a 19-inch all-season tire and wheel package on the 2011 CTS sedan and sport wagon. The 19’ Goodyear Eagle RS-A2 tires use carbon fiber in the tire’s sidewall to keep more rubber on the road, thus delivering better handling. An asymmetric tread design enhances traction and cornering that makes for a quieter ride. The package is available on the 3.6 liter V6 performance and premium models and will cost $850. GM Authority knows GM’s (newest) vehicles are the best – just head on over to the Garage to see for yourself. But beyond GM products, Edmunds has gone on to acknowledge the public’s agreement with our assessment. Edmunds’ new Launch Breakthrough Awards are given to ten vehicles analyzed through 18 criteria. Many include business measurements such as profitability, sales, and dealer profit margins, while others are more consumer centric, such as consideration, ratings and awards.
54 vehicles were eligible for the award in 2010 and ten cars drove away winners. Half of these were created, engineered, and manufactured by General Motors. The usual sales headliners from GM were all present. The list honored LaCrosse, Equinox, Terrain, SRX and Camaro. Two Toyota products, two Ford products and a Porsche rounded out the list. When Bob Lutz retired from General Motors almost two months ago, we all thought he would spend his time writing his second book, flying in his fighter jet, and, well, just being awesome. But it now looks like the legendary automotive exec could make a return. According to sources, Lutz has been in talks with Lotus about becoming an advisor to the sports car maker. Continue reading.
Compared to measures such as market share, revenue, and profit, the transaction price metric is somewhat less popular. However, the average transaction price can tell a very interesting story about the public’s perception of an automobile manufacturer: if car buyers are willing to pay more for a particular brand/vehicle, the net effect is better resale values and improved long-term brand equity.
General Motors had the highest transaction price in the industry through the first five months of this year, coming in at a full $1,410 above the industry average of $29,617, which is an increase of 3.8 percent over 2009 levels. The average industry increase was 3.7 percent, with the Big Three reigning in the highest transaction prices in the industry. Only Chrysler was below average (only by $7). (more…)
The Corvette ZR1, the 638 hp supercharged monster that comes to us from the halls of GM, has now been hit with rebates and incentives. The move is due to the amount of unsold ZR1s sitting on dealer lots, which total over 500 copies at the beginning of July. Continue reading.
High demand for the Chevrolet Equinox is music to the ears of General Motors executives and employees. In fact, GM is scrambling to meet demand for the midsize-compact CUV and is in the process of expanding capacity at its Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada plant – but more on that in a bit. Continue reading.
If you were in the market for a Corvette in Europe (notice: not “Chevrolet Corvette”) during the last few years, you would have had to visit your local Cadillac dealer. And unless you had a helicopter at your disposal to cover the entire region, you probably couldn’t find one of those stores in your vicinity anyway. But as GM Europe restructures itself, its dealer network, and moves Chevrolet upmarket with offerings such as the Cruze and Camaro (instead of rebadged Daewoo models), things are changing.
European Corvette customers will soon be able to purchase GM’s hailed supercar in all of its flavors at Chevrolet dealers, much like they have been able to in North America. Even though the ‘Vette will not have the “Chevrolet” name anywhere on the bodywork, Chevrolet and Corvette have always been together – like fish and chips.
As you’re pondering your next Corvette purchase, be sure to read the latest highly tantalizing Corvette rumor right here.

As General Motors gets ready to put the much-awaited Chevy Volt into production and deliver it to customers this November, consumer reaction to the world’s first EREV (Extended Range Electric Vehicle) still remains an unknown. The idea of emissions-free driving might capture many hearts, but a high price tag and the lack of a truly prevalent electric infrastructure may serve as a deterrent to some. Fortunately for General Motors, many legislators are working to negate any infrastructure fears consumers may have about an electric vehicle. (more…)
