Video: Corvette Racing Episode 1 Corvette Is Here To Win

Click the image to watch the first episode!

Here’s an inside look at Corvette Racing, the way the story was meant to be told. With interviews from Doug Fehan (Corvette Racing Program Manager), Dan Binks (Corvette Racing Crew Chief), and Mark Kent (Manager of GM Racing) the Corvette Racing video series gives us an inside look at Corvette Racing.

Considering what had happened last year at Sebring (refresher in the video) and the ‘Vette’s performance in the same event this year (#8 and 9), the Corvette Racing team has its work cut out for it. In the end, Fehan got it right when he said:

“We’ve got something to prove to our fans and all the people who are watching that race on TV, the Corvette’s here to stay and the Corvette’s here to win.”

PS: Who else loves Binks’ reaction to last year’s crash? We sure do! (more…)

  • The Buick Regal Wagon Seems To Be A Close Reality
    by
    Mar 23rd, 2010

The Buick Regal Wagon Seems To Be A Close RealityNow, just why would a small fleet of Opel Insignias make their way to southeast Michigan?

For us to cover it, of course! Other reasons may include that General Motors is a couple of chapters into the development of a Buick Regal wagon, the The Buick Regal Wagon Seems To Be A Close RealityAmerican brother-in-law to the Opel Insignia. This could very well be the rumored Buick wagon that has been floating around the past few months. There aren’t many other reasons for a fleet of Opels to be on this side of the pond, even though GM has yet to go public in confirming the wagonized Regal.

The upcoming Regal could easily be the most multi-faced model for Buick with the production of the wagon, the slightly athletic GS and the rumored coupe (of which we have renderings right here) along with the basic sedan variant.

    Release the Kraken wagons!

  • Outlook and H3 Production Temporarily Revived
    by
    Mar 23rd, 2010

Outlook and H3 Production Temporarily RevivedGeneral Motors has temporarily reinstated production of two vehicles hailing from discontinued brands. The Saturn Outlook and Hummer H3 production lines have recommenced production temporarily despite their respective brands being shuttered. Unlike the recent situation with Saab, this does not signal a future for either Saturn or Hummer.

Production of the two vehicles will resume for individual reasons. The General produced 1,037 Outlooks in February at its Lansing, Michigan plant where the Lambda platform vehicles (Enclave, Acadia, and Traverse, in addition to the discontinued Outlook) are produced. The Outlook will end production in coming weeks once Saturn-specific materials are used up.

The Hummer H3, on the other hand, is being temporarily produced to fulfill demand for a fleet order. Production will be reinstated on April 12 at GM’s Shreveport, Louisiana plant, and the order should be filled by the middle of May. After this, Shreveport will continue production of the GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Colorado although, as GM Authority has previously reported, the future is uncertain for these two vehicles as well, leaving us wondering about the future of the Shreveport facility.

  • Chevrolet To Open Test Drive Studios
    by
    Mar 23rd, 2010

Chevrolet To Open Test Drive StudiosTaking its “May The Best Car Win” Program to the next level, GM is launching two experimental marketing programs for its core Chevrolet brand.

    Auto Show Test Drives

The first program takes advantage of GM’s presence at some 30 auto shows around the U.S., and will coincide with the annual events. It will allow show attendees to test drive GM vehicles against those of competitors.

According to Steve Tihanyl, GM general director for marketing services, alliances, and branded entertainment, “What we are trying to do is leverage the period of the auto show to create this experience.” In fact, “One thing we know about auto shows is a lot of people who come will be in market in zero to 12 months.”

  • Stop It Already: GM Has “A Reasonable Chance Of Being Profitable” In 2010
    by
    Mar 22nd, 2010

Stop It Already: GM Has A Reasonable Chance Of Being Profitable In 2010When CFO Chris Liddell met with reporters last week, he had the following to say about GM’s financial situation going forward: “I think we have a reasonable chance of being profitable this year.”

Liddell, who has been at General Motors for a mere six weeks after leaving his post at Microsoft late last year, refused to provide specifics (such as whether that estimate is on a net basis). He did, however, suggest that The General’s operations in China and Brazil are profitable, but said that GM’s European enterprise remains a challenge. And what about North America? “Somewhere in the middle,” according to Liddell.

“The preconditions for success are actually extremely good,” he said.

When asked about the anticipated initial public offering, Liddell didn’t give any specifics, saying that it depends on several factors such as the economy and industry. If these conditions are favorable, he said it is possible that GM could go public in the second half of this year, cautioning that he “wouldn’t go further than ‘possible’.”

“The timing has to be right,” he said.

  • Chevrolet Delivers Creative Marketing At South By Southwest
    by
    Mar 22nd, 2010

Chevrolet Delivers Creative Marketing At South By SouthwestJust last week we reported on Chevrolet’s efforts to understand emerging technologies at the South By Southwest (SXSW) Conference. But besides those efforts to explore the worlds of social media and interconnectivity, Chevy also had a few other activities at the conference that showed off the bow tie brand’s product.

See The USA In Your Chevrolet: A SXSW Road Trip

For starters, Chevy organized a road rally dubbed See the USA in your Chevrolet: A SXSW Road Trip. It provided Chevy vehicles for eight teams where participants completed missions selected by followers on Twitter. The teams, which drove to SXSW from as far away as New York City and San Diego, used technologies such as (GM’s own) OnStar and Facebook to track and report their progress in the race, all in real time. While the value of this particular event may be somewhat difficult to comprehend for the social media simpleton, the concept is very creative and interesting.

Basically, Chevy listened to requests on Twitter and then relayed these to the respective teams. The end result is an increase in buzz-building Chevrolet-related conversations that draw attention to the rally and – ultimately – to Chevrolet and its products. (more…)

Continuing Chevrolet’s ad series from the 2010 Winter Olympics is the following commercial featuring the Malibu and the Traverse. As I’ve mentioned before, I believe this is an excellent series – if not for its (obvious) comedic value. And even if you’re not a fan of talking inanimate objects, this one packs a (smelly) surprise. Check the ad after the break and be sure to watch parts one and two if you haven’t already! (more…)

New Chevrolet Small Car To Be Built At GM Uzbekistan Joint Venture

Left to right: Rustam Azimov - Republic of Uzbekistan First Deputy Prime Minister; Shukhrat Yusupov - UzAvtoSanoat Vice Chairman; Dwenell Mills - GM Daewoo Vice President of Product Planning & Program Management; Mike Arcamone - GM Daewoo President and CEO

A new small Chevrolet vehicle will be built at GM’s joint venture in Uzbekistan. Destined for the emerging markets in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Russia, the compact car will enable Chevrolet to continue to grow in the region.

GM Uzbekistan, established in March 2008, is a joint venture between General Motors, which holds a 25 percent stake, and UzAvtoSanoat, which holds the remaining 75 percent. Both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in agreement to manufacture the new Chevrolet vehicle.

GM Daewoo (GM DAT) Vice President of Planning & Program Management Dwenell Mills and UzAvtoSanoat Vice Chairman Shukhrat Yusupov, signed the document in early February in the presence of Republic of Uzbekistan First Deputy Prime Minister Rustam Azimov.

GM Uzbekistan has an annual production capacity of 250,000 units. It currently manufactures such models as the Chevrolet Matiz, Lacetti, and Captiva for sale in Uzbekistan via GM’s sales operations and for export to several neighboring countries.

Most recently, GM DAT began construction of a new powertrain facility in Uzbekistan. In a press release, GM DAT CEO Mike Arcamone said the following:

Uzbekistan, where we recently also began construction of a new powertrain facility, is Chevrolet’s core production base in the high-potential markets of Central Asia and a significant strategic partner for our export business. We will continue to support our Uzbekistan operations through the introduction of new products and the means to build them.

We have the full press release after the jump!
